Greenway Garden
The Greenway Garden is a thriving hub in the community with lots of activities, and around 20 growers who have come together to grow food, build a sense of community, and improve their health and wellbeing. The project is led by Murrayburn & Hailesland Community Park Association, and is supported by Wester Hailes Growing Communities.
It’s a sizeable garden with over 60 raised beds, a community shed, tool shed, and forest garden. The beds are tended by local households and volunteers who grow food for the Sunflower Pantry and other local community food projects. There are regular events and workshops, not only about gardening but wellbeing, cooking, mindfulness, art, music, scavenger hunts, and many a community meal – whatever you’d like to use the space for! There’s also frequently Natural Play workshops for kids, run with support from The Green Team Edinburgh – bug hunting, arts and crafts, storytelling, games and more to get them creative and exploring in the outdoors.
The lovely group are always bringing along homemade goodies using produce grown in the garden – soups, pies, jams, ice lollies, cakes, curries – the works! All enjoyed with a cuppa in the roomy garden shed, many a food coma has occurred here.
Fun Fact: The garden houses two beehives, with regular beekeeping workshops run by beekeeper Wade, where anyone is welcome to get a beekeeping suit on, take a closer look, and learn all about these amazing pollinators!
